Slipknot: 9.0 Live

29/08/07  ||  theProphet

Man, oh man. I used to consider Slipknot one of my favourite bands, and I still dig some of their material, although I don’t fellate them like I did a couple of years ago. Suffice to say, I was still a little excited when I heard that they were releasing a live album.

I was, however, extremely disappointed as this has got to be one of the most BORING releases of the 21st century. First of all there’s 24 tracks on this motherfucker divided into two discs and the total playing time is something like 1000 hours. Anything this long has to be pretty fucking good to keep anyone interested, but it is at this point that “9.0 Live” (silly fucking title) fails so miserably. I wont go in depth on the song material as most of you interested in this review prolly know about it. However, I will say that it becomes very obvious how much the last album, “Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses”, sucked when compared to its two predecessors.

The sound on this effort is fucking weak too, the drums and percussion and shit is very predominant in the mix and the guitars sound very thin and the bass is hardly audible. To top it all of, Corey’s vocals doesn’t come close to what they used to sound like. Obviously, he’s playing it safe. Weak.

When you do a live album, it’s a horrible idea to include performances from several different venues. Like at the start of one song it’s all “HEEEEELLLLOOOOOO VEEEEEEGAAAAAASSS!!!” and the next thing you know they’re in fucking Houston or whatever. I want my live albums to be a recorded concert, not some fucking best of compilation.

All in all this album is bad, don’t buy it. The only thing that stands out is the solo in “Vermilion”, which is very nice in this version.

4 hours of excess album length out of 10.
